Staying healthy is now easier than ever before. There’s a diet to match any health regime you wish to follow. When you go to any health food store, there’s a supplement for everything, catering to all sorts of dietary requirements.
But one thing we do hear a lot of in the health supplement world is a phenomenon called “pill fatigue” – in which people grow tired of swallowing pill after pill without some sense of enjoyment, while staying healthy. Health supplements don’t have to be like that. Elderberry gummies are one way to inject some fun into your day.
Fresh Healthcare has a tasty range of vegan-friendly black elderberry gummies, sourced from real elderberries. While they might not be the most obvious choice for one of your five-a-day, elderberries are packed with so much natural goodness, and our gummies are perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.
The Best Elderberry Gummies in Town
Derived from the Sambucus genus of flowering plants, elderberries are some of the smallest fruits you can find. While toxic when unripe, raw and uncooked, properly prepared elderberries are the perfect tonic to a number of things, bolstering your immune support and delivering a healthy dose of Vitamin C.
But what makes Fresh Healthcare Sambucol Black Elderberry Gummies so good? Traditionally, gummies have been sourced from gelatine, an animal protein. This has been an issue for many consumers, especially those who have been wanting to try healthy gummies which are vegan-friendly.
Fortunately, our gummies are as they should be, vegan-friendly, while retaining that sweet, chewiness that will have you finding them hard to resist. As with any product with some level of sugar in it, always be mindful of your sugar intake, and maintain good dental hygiene.
This is because, if left unchecked, excessively sugary diets can lead to issues related to blood pressure, and can even increase the likelihood of strokes, heart disease and diabetes.
Nutritional Value of Sambucol Black Elderberry
There’s a tremendous wealth of nutritional value to be had from elderberries, especially in gummy-form. Elderberries are rich in antioxidants, as many fruits are. Antioxidants are useful compounds which limit the process of oxidation, in which the body produces free radicals. Without antioxidants, free radicals would create chemical reactions with the potential to damage living tissue.
But just where does this antioxidant richness come from? The answer: elderberries serve a hefty dose of Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid. As an article published in the Frontiers in Bioscience journal in 2013 explains, humans, as with most animals, have a mutation which prevents us from synthesizing Vitamin C. This means that we are more prone to conditions such as scurvy, fragile blood vessels and connective tissue damage. If left untreated, deficiencies in Vitamin C can lead to death. As a result, we need to derive the bulk of our intake of Vitamin C from our diets, just in order to prevent the aforementioned conditions from arising.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. There are a host of other benefits to be had from supplementing your diet with Vitamin C-rich products, such as sambucol black elderberry. That same 2013 journal article also refers to the fact that since the late-1990s, there has been growing evidence that Vitamin C could reduce the likelihood of cell malignancy in humans.
In effect, this suggests that the right intake of ascorbic acid makes it an effective anti-carcinogenic. This was evidenced in a trial in which high doses of Vitamin C, administered to cancer patients intravenously helped boost survival rates among them by as much as 20 times as compared to control groups who didn’t receive the supplemental Vitamin C.
Other Reasons to Try Elderberry Gummies
You might now be wondering, how much Vitamin C is to be had in elderberries themselves? The Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University published a recent article earlier this year, written by dietitian Mary Mosquera Cochran, RD, on the subject of elderberries. In her article, Ms Cochran revealed that just one cup of black elderberries contains 97 per cent of your recommended daily amount of Vitamin A and 57 per cent of the Vitamin C you need on a daily basis.
The high concentration of Vitamin A and C in elderberries led Ms Cochran to dub elderberries “nutritional powerhouses” – addressing the apparent immune-system boosting powers of elderberries, Ms Cochran admitted that there are a limited studies to analyse so far, to determine whether elderberry products can actually relieve the common cold or influenza.
Even so, she also added that elderberries, when prepared carefully before consumption, could be a safe form of cold and flu relief, in addition to the regular flu shot you get each year.
Potential Side Effects of Elderberry Consumption
Before diving into including any form of elderberry health product in your diet, it’s important to bear in mind that some forms of elderberry extract could be unsuitable for certain groups of people. For example, in Ms. Cochran’s recent article clarified that elderberry isn’t recommended for consumption by either pregnant women or those who still breastfeed, simply because of the lack of research on the safety of elderberry consumption by this population.
To be on the safe side, to avoid any elderberry gummies side effects, it’s clear that women who fall into those categories would be recommended to avoid them as well, as long as there continues to be a lack of research into the effects of elderberry on them.
Despite this, for the majority of people, Elderberry Gummies from Fresh Healthcare should be perfectly safe to consume. When it comes to Elderberry Gummies dosage, please read the label. Avoid eating them all at once! We know they’re irresistibly chewy and sweet, but as with all things, they are best served in moderation.
